Wednesday March 28th, 2012 One Act Plays @ Jordan High School 8:00 a.m.


The Region and State Drama Festivals are theatrical activities that students may participate in through their local schools. Students may participate in the One-Act play festival or prepare an individual event to be adjudicated by professionals. Students receive scores and feedback that can help them build skills for practice and performance. Four entries in each category, except the one-act play are allowed to go to Region festival.

What Events Can I Participate In?

Humorous Monologues (2-6 minutes): Students prepare one monologue from published theatrical works, or self authored works, and perform 3 times for a different adjudicator in each round.

Dramatic Monologues (2-6 minutes): Students prepare one monologue from published theatrical works, or self authored works, and perform 3 times for a different adjudicator in each round.

Contemporary Scenes (3-8 minutes): Up to three individuals may participate in a scene from published theatrical works. Contemporary scenes must vome from plays published after the year 1900. They perform three times for a different adjudicator in each round.

Classical Scenes: (3-8 minutes): Up to three individuals may participate in a scene from published theatrical works. Classical scenes must vome from plays published before the year 1900. They perform three times for a different adjudicator in each round.

Pantomimes (2-6 minutes): Up to two individuals may participate in pantomime from self authored or published works. Pantomimes are acted without words, props or costumes. The emphasis is placed on physical acting. They perform three times for a different adjudicator in each round.

Musical Theatre (2-6 minutes): 1-4 entrants may participate in a musical theatre scene. Material must be drawn from published scripts written for the theater or film. The performers may use pre-recorded, non-vocal musical accompaniment or live music. If live music is used, the entrant must provide an accompanist.

One-Act Plays (60 minutes): Students may participate in the one-act play by auditioning. Students will perform the selected one-act in one hours time, including set-up, performance, strike, and talkback with adjudicators. Students perform once for three adjudicators.
